Jacket Buying Guide for Fall and Winter : Trendy Jacket Styles

Jackets are absolute essential for the cold seasons. With your other fall and winter essentials, you need at least one good jacket that you can wear whenever you need it.
Whether you’re tall, short, skinny, or whatever your body type is, there is a jacket for everybody.

A good jacket is a stylish menswear piece that every guy needs in his wardrobe. You can have multiple but at least one should be there.

We want to look cool and stylish in the cold seasons and this is the right season for all the style and fashion enthusiasts. You can layer, mix and match. With layering, you can create some amazing outfit combinations. If you don’t have snowfall or very cold winters in your place, skip getting very heavy and thick jackets. There are other amazing lightweight jackets like the windbreakers, bombers, etc.
The jackets for all types of winters are the leather jacket, denim jacket, and the Harrington jacket. You can wear a denim jacket throughout the year.

With a variety of jacket styles out there, buying the right style is confusing. If you want to get a new jacket for fall and winter this year, it’s probably the right time to get one before anyone else. Some brands have already updated their fall and winter collection. We saw plain leather jackets and retro style windcheaters made a comeback last year. The ’80s and ’90s retro fashion is very trendy right now so if you’ve to only pick one jacket, go for the oversized retro-style windcheater jacket.

These are all the jackets styles you should consider for the cold months this year.

1. The Retro Oversized Windcheater

Windcheater jacket

The oversized windcheater jacket was one of the most popular jacket styles back in the late ’80s and ’90s. Every stylish guy owned at least one of these jackets back then.
What made them so cool? – The fashion in the ’80s and ’90 was colorful and vibrant. Clothing pieces such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets had big graphics and colorblock designs.

Brands don’t make the same pieces now that they made in the ’80s and 90s but clothing that is inspired by them. Some of these new pieces are super stylish, look modern and futuristic but also retro at the same time.
The thin oversized windbreaker is an amazing jacket to get this fall and winter. Make sure it is not very large.

Pair it with some light wash denim and some retro-looking shoes to create a perfect retro outfit.

2. Plain/non-biker Leather Jacket

Black leather jacket

As a guy reading this, you’ve got to admit it that you love the black leather jacket. C’mon, every dude loves the badass black leather jacket. It is a classic and versatile menswear piece and men are rocking for decades. The biker style leather jackets were very popular in the last decade and are still, but the plain black leather jacket has made a comeback and is starting to appear well again. A plain leather jacket is the one you should go for this year if you don’t already own a leather jacket.

Whatever your casual outfit is, just add a black leather jacket over it to instantly upgrade your style in the cold seasons.

Leather jackets can be very expensive if you go for one that is made from real leather. If it’s made from real leather, expect it to last for decades. There also are artificial leather options available if you’re vegan or vegetarian and don’t want to go for animal skin leather.

3. Light Wash/blue Denim Jacket

Denim jacket

A denim jacket is an amazing clothing item that can be worn throughout the year. Get a good one and it will last years.
Go for the light wash with mild distresses and tears this season because of the retro fashion trend. This jacket looks best on teens and younger guys.
It’s not difficult to pull off and style a denim jacket. You can go for white pants or khaki chinos. When it comes to denim on denim, make sure that is enough contrast between the jeans and the jacket. Both pieces should be different shades of blue.
The denim jacket in my opinion is the best jacket option for casual day outs.

4. Lightweight bomber jacket

Bomber jacket

Bomber jackets were so popular in the last decade that it has become a menswear jacket essential now. Every guy should own at least one good lightweight nylon or polyester blend bomber jacket.
There are bulkier bombers too but go for one that is lightweight as it will be perfect for seasons other than winter too. If you’re getting your first bomber jacket, go for colors like black, grey, or light green.

5. Hooded Windbreaker/Lightweight Anorak Jacket

A hooded windbreaker is the best jacket option if you don’t have extreme cold seasons. It’s been popular for almost 2 years now and is still an amazing jacket for fall.

Anorak jacket

Being a windbreaker jacket, it is supposed to be thin and can be rocked almost all year. You can even get one that is rainproof so it’ll also work as a rain jacket too.
It will look good on people of all ages but will make you look fresh and cool if you’re in your teen years or 20s. If you’ve already got any other jackets from the list but still wanna buy a new one, the hooded windbreaker with a solid design is the jacket you should go for.

You can pair the jacket with jeans and high top sneakers.

6. Shaket/Overshirt

Shaket

A shaket or overshirt is one of the best style pieces for fall because it is thick(not as thick as a regular jacket though) and looks trendy. It has a design like a flannel shirt but is heavier. The jacket is seen rocked by male models and fashion influencers and has become a popular menswear item now.
Shakets look masculine and work well as a layering piece in your outfits. It can be worn with both chinos and denim.

Getting one this season would be perfect if you’ve never owned it before. You can get an affordable one from H&M or Zara to see how it looks on you.

Keeping the trends aside, you can go for a high quality peacoat in colors like light brown, black, or grey anyday to feel like a style savage. A camel peacoat with blue jeans and chelsea boots is a killer outfit combination for the fall and winters.
