The fashion shows are cool, super retro, and baggy this year. There is a big change in bottom styles and the pants are now relaxed. Baggy pieces like blazers and sweatshirts are some of the pieces to consider this year. The menswear shows included elements that had inspiration from the 70s. This means we can see some change in fashion in the coming months as fast fashion brands will bring pieces inspired from the 70s and 80s later this year and the next.
Relaxed fit, in general, is a very big thing in fashion and it has almost retired the skinny fit. As of now, these are the best trendy styles men can get right now. Considering the season now, you can wear most of these styles in summer, and throughout the year in different ways.
1. Linen Shirts
The fabric linen has been popular for quite a while now and will probably stay in the menswear industry forever. It was popular in menswear last year too. Linen is not limited to just shirts but suits, jackets, trousers, and many other clothing pieces. These linen pieces were produced by many fashion houses last year.
Why is linen so popular?
Humans have been using linen in different forms for various purposes for thousands of years. It has now become a big thing in fashion. Linen serves as a substitute for cotton, and other synthetic fabrics during the hot months. The fabric is more breathable than cotton and is lightweight. Linen apparels are slightly costlier than cotton but they last long as linen is durable.
The best menswear piece made from linen is a shirt. It can be casual or formal. A good casual linen shirt will be your best option for the summer. A blue or green shirt with vertical stripes is an amazing option. It can be worn with a t-shirt inside or without it and can be worn inside a denim jacket during summer.
A simple chino and linen shirt outfit is best for summer as it will keep you cool throughout the day. Linen shirts can be worn on casual day-outs when hanging around the beach.
2. Relaxed Pants
The huge trend of skinny jeans is now gone and looser fits have taken over. Skinny fit was a big thing in the last decade. It was everywhere and most of us liked the style at some point. Moving forward with style, relaxed fits are the new cool.
Digital fashion shows and fashion influencers are all styling relaxed pants. Denim, chinos and even suit trousers, you can get all of these in looser and relaxed fits. Outfits with these pieces will look very modest and the fit itself is very comfortable unlike skinny.
Relaxed is a type of fit but there are other fits too that fall in the same category. Regular, straight and loose are all in the relaxed fit sector.
We have to keep up with the trends but also not stop wearing what our actual signature fit/style is. If slim is your signature fit, it should make most of your pant collection . You don’t have to get all your new pants in relaxed fits just because of it being trendy.
3. Overshirts
Like the last few years, the overshirt trend is not going anywhere this year too. It’s been in the style for more than 3 years now and is a stylish and versatile piece. For layering in the fall and winter seasons or using it during hotter months, a shirt jacket is something you can wear all year round.
If we talk about the design, overshirts are made like flannels and have one or two chest pockets. They are heavier and slightly thicker than regular shirts but are lighter than jackets. There are various designs like solid and checks.
Other than being a versatile closet piece, shirt jackets can be worn by men of all ages. They had baggy designs when they are first popular but you can find some good well fitted pieces now.
4. Technical and Work wear
Technical and similar apparel like hiking-inspired wear is quickly becoming a big scene in streetwear. These pieces have the utilitarian vibe, the ruggedness, and more functionality that makes things easier. You can get jackets and cargo pants (which work well during the winters) with rugged military looks. There are military-inspired vests with many pockets and details that can be worn as a top layer in your outfits.
Hiking pieces like jackets, shoes, and pants work when your wear these individually with your regular outfit, making your outfits more trendy and streetstyle-ish.
5. Nike Blazer
The blazer is one of the best affordable Nike pairs to get in 2021. It was doing just okay until last year but a lot of people started getting the sneaker in 2021 and it has become very trendy again(it an old sneaker and has been around for decades though).
Made of good quality materials, the Nike Blazer carries a classic design and comes in low and mid-top. I would suggest you go for the mid-top as it looks cooler and is more value for money. Blazer is a mid-range sneaker but can be found very affordable when on discounts and the pair will last a long time.
6. Modern Athleisure
Athleisure is the new loungewear. Months of being quarantined at home made us think about the style and fit we need in times like these. Designers and brands performed the next step of bringing us comfortable clothes. There are still places where people can’t go out of their homes every day due to the lockdown restrictions. When lounging around the house or going out to meet friends or bringing groceries home, we need some cool and comfortable pieces.
Athleisure is something more people are leading to, it is an everyday thing now. Pieces like sweatpants and hoodies that you buy today will work all year round.
7. Converse Chuck 70 high
Just like the Nike Blazer, Converse Chuck 70 is a classic pair you can own. It has an amazing sleek profile and people have started showing interest in the sneaker this year. Chuck Taylor 70s are more expensive, tougher, and better looking in my opinion than the regular chuck Taylor All-Stars. They come in multiple colorways.
My personal favorite colors are dark brown, black, and parchment(almost like off-white) that goes with everything in your closet.
