Converse Chuck Taylor 70 is a work of art. There are shoes which might be of better quality and more beautiful than the Chuck 70, but this one is real elegant. The brand Converse has been around for more than a century now and they know what they’re doing and where they’re heading to.
Converse Chuck Taylor 70, released in 2013, is an upgrade to the super popular Chuck Taylor All Star.
The 70 is chunkier with better quality canvas and rubber materials. It’s certainly better looking as well. They are also pricier than the regular chucks.
The regular Chuck Taylor All Star is a classic silhouette. Regardless of the current trend in footwear, you can always wear the Chuck Taylor. They’re cheap and versatile. I own both the regular Chucks and the 70s version and they’re both values for your bucks.
I want you to have a general idea about what a Chuck Taylor 70 is, this post is a discussion + (kind of)review and the difference between the two Chucks (regular and 70s)
Converse has been fairly strong lately if we’re talking about new footwear (not that they’ve ever not been). They’re killing it with new colorways, concepts, and materials for their products.
The Chuck Taylor 70 is available in various colors and Converse also has them in the recycled canvas version. There are both low and high top versions of the sneaker available.
These chuck 70s (in images) are in a colorway called Egret, consisting of off-white and warm-whites shades. The color white (and its different shades) is associated with the hot months but off-white is a great and one of my favorite colors for the fall and winter months. This converse sneaker is a perfect example. The chuck 70 is an all-year-round sneaker.
They tend to look good with time and there are many people who wear them beat up. This elegant high top is super versatile and I don’t see myself getting the low top (any Chuck Taylor low top) anytime soon. You should get the high top first if it’s your first Converse sneaker.
Build Quality and Durability
The shoes are made of good grade materials. Sturdier than the regular Chuck Taylor which was needed as the regular has a thin canvas upper and the tongue is flimsy, hence unstable. The tongue and shoelaces are slightly better in the chuck 70s.
With vintage-inspired details, the Chuck 70 uses a durable premium canvas upper and a heavy rubber midsole that is a single piece of rubber as opposed to 3 pieces in regular Chucks.
The insole is removable and has a good amount of cushioning. The laces are of good quality and there’s a cool embossed logo patch.
Egret (white tones)
The colorway in the pictures is various shades of white. The official name on the box is Egret(Egret/Egret/Egret). The exterior of the sneaker is white, composed of off-white and warm-white tones. Shoelaces are off-white as well.
Everything on the outside is white(shades) except the two highest eyelets which are golden. A similar parchment colorway has black and red lines along with the midsole but this sneaker is all in the white realm. Of all the Chuck Taylor 70s, this Egret colorway is probably the most classy and premium looking.
Styling Chuck 70
This is a Converse Chuck Taylor and also a monochrome (all white tones), which means its super versatile. They go with all types of pants such as denim, chino, cargo, etc.
People have started wearing high top chucks with suits recently, something you wouldn’t have thought of doing a few years ago. Pairing the Chuck 70s with a suit is not easy and if you want to, avoid bold checks and patterns on the suit.
Is the Chuck 70 worth it (paying almost twice the price of the regular Chucks)?
Chuck 70 uses higher quality materials than regular Chucks and the overall appearance of the sneaker is much cooler. Paying nearly twice as much as the regular Chuck for the Chuck Taylor 70 has its benefits.
In addition to looking more beautiful and better built, the Chuck 70 is much more comfortable than the regular. The regular Chucks are a nightmare if you have to walk often during the day. My feet hurt very bad once when I walked about a mile wearing them. The Chuck 70 has better comfort but you should still not have long walks wearing any Chucks. Since they are not intended for long walks or running, you should try other running shoes.
When it comes to the value for money factor, the Chuck Taylor 70s are certainly more advantageous than the regular Chucks. If on sale, it becomes an obvious deal because Converse Chuck Taylor is a must-have sneaker. You can likely find bargains during sales when the product has 40% and even more discounts.
